Chapter Excellence Award Winner - Advancing the Profession through Certification 2018
This award recognizes your Chapter for helping professionalize the industry through promoting ACRP Certification Programs. The Chapter of Excellence award is the highest honor and recognition available for ACRP Chapters.
The Greater Salt Lake Chapter initiated a formal study group/exam preparation class in 2015. We have hosted this study group prior to each certification exam season since that time, 6 in total so far. Each Study Group Session is made up of six two-hour classes. The GSL Chapter has taken a unique approach with our certification program. We have found that many are intimidated by the prospect of taking a stressful and difficult certification exam. Our program attempts to promote the importance of certification and the validation it brings to one professionally. We structure our class to focus on reducing test anxiety, and teaching test taking strategies that can help the tester be more successful on test day, such as time management. We also focus on having confidence in the knowledge that participants already have from doing their jobs every day. It is not just about memorizing the regulations but associating them with the job related duties they carry out in their positions.
Overall between the Winter 2017 and Summer 2017 Study Groups, there were 26 participants that attended the majority of the sessions, 12 and 14 respectively. Although we did not require attendees to share the outcome of testing, many volunteered their results. Of the 26 total participants for 2017, we determined that 16 passed and 4 opted not to test, leaving 6 as unknown. The chapter is working on developing a newsletters that will go out to chapter members routinely throughout the year. We are hoping to add certification accomplishments to this newsletter.
