Program Description:
Jeri Burr/COVID Trials Rapid Study Startup: Using superb expertise in these domains at 4 AMCs, how did the Utah Trial Innovation Center develop and initiate two large randomized clinical trials studying the effects of hydroxychloroquine in outpatients with confirmed COVID-19 in under two weeks. How did they successfully execute rapid study start-up and study management using a ‘no touch’ protocol while under quarantine, stay at home orders.
Jeri Burr/MIS-C in children: This presentation will broadly discuss MIS-C in children, a COVID-19 complication that leads to serious illness and causes harmful inflammation in different parts of the body, why MIS-C affects children and not adults, current treatments for MIS‐C, and debunking some of the myths about children and COVID. Updates will be given on vaccine research for children. In addition, key research has been done to provide schools with a road map for school leaders and policymakers to use the latest science to help school leaders and state policymakers arrive at informed decisions about returning to school using data from their own communities.
Christina Brennan/COVID Longhauler Symptoms: According to the CDC, between 10 and 30% of people infected with COVID experience long-term health problems, referred to as post-acute sequelae (PASC) or commonly known as Long-Hauler. These ailments can be mild or incapacitating and effect virtually any organ system in the body.
Tamar Rodney/PTSD after COVID; In this lecture, how the ongoing presence of the COVID-19 pandemic could manifest as post-traumatic stress will be explored along with difficulties with identifying the unseen scars that may be left.
Upon completion of this Seminar, attendees should be able to:
- Describe rapid deployment of emergency IRB review, eConsent, and DSMB review, how to direct a high performing team and develop a quality risk assessment, identify database build requirements and collaboration needed with RCs, CRAs and Research Nurses
- Describe MIS-C and course of the disease, review current treatments and discuss the latest research
- Understand the symptoms and conditions associated with PASC, which clinical assessments and tests are needed for PASC patients and how to optimize care for the medical home approach
- Explore the concept of trauma related to COVID-19, the strategies of coping with trauma related to COVID and the variable experience and the impact on the recovery process
