RTP & Greater Philadelphia Chapters: Decentralized Clinical Trials - Empowering Patients Through Cho

When:  Feb 19, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (ET)

RTP & Greater Philadelphia Chapters: Decentralized Clinical Trials - Empowering Patients Through Choice

Event Description:
Decentralized clinical trials (DCTs) move many—or all—trial activities away from traditional research sites and into participants’ homes or local settings, remote services, and distributed infrastructure. Beyond the well-known benefits (convenience, faster recruitment, broader reach), there are several unique and innovative ways DCTs can be designed and used. Giving patients the choice of home visits—rather than requiring clinic-only visits—improves patient retention through several reinforcing psychological, practical, and clinical mechanisms. The effect is not just about convenience; it’s about autonomy, trust, and sustained engagement.

Speaker:
Brittany Haltzman-Cassenti, MS, MPH, CCRC
Sr. Global Project Manager, mdgroup

Learning Objectives:
  1. Explain how decentralized clinical trials differ from traditional site-based trials and identify innovative ways DCTs can be designed to improve patient participation and data collection.
  2. Describe how offering patients choice—particularly the option of home visits—impacts retention by addressing psychological, practical, and clinical factors such as autonomy, trust, and burden reduction.
  3. Apply patient-choice principles to DCT design to enhance sustained engagement, retention, and overall trial success beyond convenience-driven benefits.
