Program Description: This workshop will build the participants knowledge, understanding, and awareness in critical issues of research design; short and long term measures of independent and dependent variables, and long term outcome measures- critical in program performance measures. Students will learn how to conceptualize strong scientifically validated research studies and produce scientific research papers to submit to high tiered scientific journals. They will be able to correlate psychological measures with behavior and behavioral outcomes with physiological outcomes.

Upon completion of this Seminar, attendees should be able to:

1. Best research design for following patients over time
2. Is loss to follow up a serious bias to study design
3. NIH Recommendation for intent to treat for all longitudinal studies
4. What is the "gold standard" for the highest level of validity: comparison of bio markers, comparison of physiological outcomes, comparison of pill counts
5. What are important determinants of adherence behavior that are important to collect in research studies
6. Health literacy and provider/patient communication and engagement
7. What are some of the critical measures used to evaluate the short and long term performance measures?
