Program Description: A blockchain is a growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked using cryptography. By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of the data and will create significant advances in the field of clinical research. Understanding this new technology will be critical for research institutions in the future.

  1. Communicate the common research use cases of blockchain and understand why this technology will create advances in clinical research
  2. Identify the legal and security risks to your institution, including the uses of smart contracts 
  3. Oversee blockchain at your institution with regard to IRB submissions, FDA and HIPAA Security Rule regulations and considerations for state statutes
