Upper Midwest Chapter: Dinner and a Movie- Miss Evers' Boys

Event Description:
We will watch "Miss Evers’ Boys,” which is based on the true story of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study where the U.S. government withheld treatment from African American syphilis patients. This 40-year experiment stands as a complex example of moral failure in medicine and clinical research and led to policy changes. A discussion will follow the movie.

Event Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the lasting impact of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study on the clinical research field.
2. Review how the Tuskegee Syphilis Study violated ethical elements of the Belmont Report. 
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the informed consent requirements resulting from the failures of the researchers.
