NY Metro Chapter: September Book Club
Event Description:
Join us for our first Book Club offering "From Oversight to Overkill: Inside the Broken System That Blocks Medical Breakthroughs—And How We Can Fix It" by Simon N. Whitney. This book critiques the current Institutional Review Board (IRB) system in the United States. Initially designed to protect patients from unethical research, the IRB system has become overly bureaucratic, causing significant delays and increased costs in medical research. Through detailed case studies, he highlights the inefficiencies and unintended consequences of the system and proposes reforms to streamline IRB processes, aiming to protect patients while enabling faster medical advancements.
