Virginia Chapter: Using Lean in Clinical Research: Improving Processes and Outcomes

Event Description:
Lean is a quality improvement (QI) methodology that has been successfully implemented in many industries, including healthcare. These methods concentrate on removing waste from any process or system so we can refine and focus the remaining “value-added” work. This presentation will cover the basics of Lean as a QI methodology and its application to healthcare systems, but the emphasis will be on applications of Lean in doing clinical research.

Speaker:
Wendy Novicoff, Ph.D. is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand Lean as a quality improvement methodology that can be used to remove waste and add value to processes and systems.
  2. Apply Lean concepts to specific issues related to conducting clinical research.
