Program Description: This lecture will provide an overview of diagnostic testing from blood samples and the challenges of normalizing results within large clinical research trials.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how blood tests are used in conducting clinical research.
  2. Explain the historical use of blood tests in research.
  3. Demonstrate general knowledge of the types of tests used for diagnosis of common human disease conditions
  4. Describe how tests are conducted and discuss the challenges faced by clinical sites in performing protocol-required tests.
  5. Describe and specify the regulations applicable to testing laboratories and tests in general.
  6. Discuss the challenges of normalizing of test results obtained from multi-site and multi-national clinical research sites.
