Description: Social media is commonly seen as a tool for sponsor advertisement, recruitment and retention in clinical trials. However, transmission of trial-related information in public digital forums can have an effect on scientific research operations and outcomes, even at the site level. How can disclosure of study information, like treatments, side effects, adverse events and other confidential information, through social media channels affect your trials? Join us to gain strategies for managing the effects of social media disclosures and their potential negative consequences, particularly in the areas of subject safety reporting and research integrity.
Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:
- Summarize how electronic communication platforms, social media is used in the research and development process, including clinical trials
- Evaluate differences between use of social media or public forums for publication, general trial information and disclosure of confidential patient, safety, or result information
- Discuss how the types of information disseminated through social media and public forums can have an impact on clinical trial operations
- Recommend strategies to mitigate the introduction of bias or other problems with uncontrolled inaccurate information release
