Vulnerable Subjects: Do You Know One When You See One?

Speaker: Rob Romanchuk, BSHS, CIP, CCRC, CCRP

Speaker Information: Rob is a seasoned clinical research professional with leadership experience in both research operations and human subjects protections. After leading a large, multihospital community health system in building a central research infrastructure, he went on to join Schulman IRB where is now acts as Vice Chair. He speaks widely on research protections and research operational issues. He holds a BHSH from The George Washington University and CIP, CCRC designations.

Program Description: Beneath every notorious story of research abuse is the vulnerable subject whose account as a victim lives on to inform future researchers. Despite the repeated lessons, modern researchers often fail to recognize the vulnerable when in their presence. This session will awaken and fine tune the research professional's "vulnerability radar" for everyday use.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the vulnerable in the history of research.
  • Explore the ethical models of vulnerability.
  • Synthesize a working construct to identify in every form.
  • Apply appropriate protections to vulnerable subjects
